Dogs Need to Stay Away from Some Foods

The website Pet Education.com has an article containing a list of foods, many of which are eaten by humans. Yet they can be harmful to dogs. The article is titled Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Dog. Some of the foods listed appear to be obviously not intended for dogs and others so weird that I'm surprised anyone would consider them even appropriate. However, there are some things on the list which a reasonable person might feed a dog and not believe it to be harmful or perhaps only trivially so.

Cat food is on the list. It is said to be usually too high in protein and fats for dogs. Fat trimmings were listed. The explanation is that they can cause pancreatitis. That surprised me.

Milk is listed too. Milk has a sugar known as lactose and some dogs lack the enzyme needed to digest it. Sugary foods in general are something to stay away from as they can cause obesity. Makes sense.

Raw fish can lead to a deficiency in a B vitamin known as thiamine. Consequences of this can be appetite loss and even seizures and death but particularly so when a regular part of the diet.
